Feis Connacht — Three Day Programme for Early June — Industrial Exhibition
The Connacht Tribune, Saturday, April 15, 1930.
Date and duration of the Connacht Feis have been drastically altered for this year, both for the better.
The date has been brought forward to June, 6th, 7th and 8th (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), the Feis being limited to these three days instead of having the event dragging through a whole week.
Galway, the, capital of Connacht, is the venue, the University College and its beautiful grounds having again been secured, and it is anticipated that in every respect the Feis this year will set up a record.
The fact that it will be held so early means that it will have the full pre—holiday strength of the schools of all graders for which there are numerous competitions. In the syllabus which has now been issued there are exactly 101 competitions, and it is only right to suggest that all the West should see to it that the entries will come in as never before.
Music (instrumental and vocal), dance, storytelling, drama, catechism, costumes, special competitions for the children and for schools and Gaeltact scholars, as well as the newly introduced community singing are amongst the features in this syllabus, the varied and excellence of which should ensure outstanding success for the Feis.
An important new feature will be the inclusion in the Feis programme is an exhibition of Irish manufactured goods which will mean practical patriotism. Firms are being invited to subscribe for a stand at the exhibition which will be accommodated in the Engineering School of University College. Among the lectures to be given in the School will be one dealing with the Shannon Scheme. The famous model of the Shannon Works has been applied for and it is expected that the Electricity Board will grant it.
In addition to the ordinary Feis programme a number of the staff of University College will give popular lectures in the library, museum, laboratories and schools of the College. A very important handball tournament will also be concluded on Sunday.
The circular issued by the industrial exhibition committee is signed by Merssrs. Michael Forde (Frank McDonagh and Co.), Denis Mangan (Alex Moon, Ltd., ), Seamus O'Baoighill (Secretary, County Galway Technical Instruction Committee), Liam O'Buachalla (Run. Na Feise).
