Sentences — Results of Recent Court Martial at Galway — Six Months for Acting as Republican Policeman
The following court material sentences have been promulgated: —
Thomas Fraher, railway official Swinford, Co. Mayo, who was tried at Renmore military barracks on November 12, charged with having in his possession on September 28, three revolvers, sixteen rounds of ammunition, and a document relating to the movements of certain members of the R.I.C. has been sentenced to six months imprisonment.
James Folan, Wood—quay, Galway, who was tried at Renmore on November 11, charged with the illegal arrest and detention of Bartley Stiff and Patrick Derane, Salthill, on May 16 last, and also which stated; "Adjutant Seamus Quirke who was taken from his house on the morning of September 9 and dragged to the docks, where he was foully murdered by twelve members of the R.I.C., and on the same night John Mulvoy was willfuly murdered at the railway station at ten past twelve by an English member of the R.I.C.," has been sentenced to six months imprisonment.
James Henry, shopkeeper's son Swinford, Co. Mayo, who was tried at Renmore on November 9, indicted for having in his possession on September 10 a document dealing with the movements of the police, has been sentenced to eighteen months imprisonment, with hard labour.
Patrick Markham, farmer's son Kiltormer, Co. Galway, who was tried at Renmore on November 4, charged with the shooting of John Brennan on March 3, with intent to murder, and also with possessing a shotgun not under effective military control, has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment.
