State of the Country

Western Argus, April 24, 1832, Wednesday.

On Friday the 6th inst., a man wearing a large great coat, under which he concealed a blunderbuss and a case of pistols, entered the house of a person named Nevin, near chapel of Clontuskert, in the county of Galway, and having called for the man of the house, who was not at home, he deliberately sat down, laid his pistols on the table and swore if Nevin continued to build his house on Mr. M. Dermot's land, unless he got the land for a pound an acre, he would shoot him. The same assassin called again on Sunday, the 8th, and missed of Nevin; but ordered the wife to tell him, that he need not be afraid.

One hundred and forty sheep, eighteen lambs and two cows, were stolen last week off the lands of Camrokeagh, county Galway, besides all the household furniture. Mr. A. S. George Ffrench was the tenant, and in arrears. Mr. Jasper V. Fowler, the Landlord, has offered a reward for their discovery.
