County Finances

The Tuam Herald, Saturday, August 21, 1920.

A special meeting of the Co. Council will be held on Tuesday to consider the very serious condition for the county finances. It would seem that matters are in a very critical condition and unless great judgment and sense are shown the whole machinery, for want of funds, may collapse. If the Government grants, which amount to a large sum, are withheld, complications of a very serious character may result. If contractors are not paid work won't be done and the roads will lapse into a condition it will take thousands to repair later on. Then the workhouses while relief system may come to a stand still and grievous injury be done all round. The matter wants careful handling and wise action else public confusion may result. We hope there will be a full attendance and the matter be approached in a sensible and proper spirit like common sense men dealing with serious problems.
