Description:
This parish is in the Diocese of It contains some portions of bog, the remainder is arable. It has one small demesne, several Danish Forts, an old convent and castle in ruins, a School House, and a Police Station. There are also three old graveyards and a new and old R. C. Chapel.
Situation:
Lies in the N. W. part of the Barony of Athenry, and is bounded on the N. W. & N. E. by the parishes of Bullaun, Killan and Killallaughtan, in the Baronies of Loughrea, Kilconnell and Clonmacnoise, and on the East, S. and S. W. by those of Abbeygormagan, Kilcooly, Kilmeen and Loughrea, in the Baronies of Athenry, Leitrim and Loughrea.
