Let to 17 occupying tenants on leases of lives and years, at 50s. to 60s. per acre, including tillage. County Cess 2s. 11½d. per acre. Size of farms from 1 to 60 acres. Soil limestone, gravely and sandy. Usual crops wheat, oats and potatoes. No bog. Prevailing names Kelly and Bermingham. On entering the village of Ardrahan in the South West side, and on the left of the road, stands a square pillar of stone and lime about 18 inches to the square and about 11 feet in height, with stone stairs round its base. Reports says it was built by the Normans others assent it is a landmark between two estates and more say it was an Irish Chieftain who was thrown from his house and killed there.
