Description:
Proprietor James O’Hara, Esq., Raheen, Gort. Agent Barry O’Hara, Galway. Let to Mr. John O’Hara, middleman on a lease during his own life, who lets it to Mr. John McMahon of Newmarket, Co. Clare and occupied by the cotter as a stock farm. Pays yearly rent 20s. per acre. County Cess 2s. 11½d. per acre. Tithe withheld. Soil rocky, pasture. A Holy Well here called Bullannacanna. The quality of the water has the affect of curing sore eyes, stations performed here. Ruins of an old castle, a small burying ground for children, some plantations and ruins of an old fortress on Bulwart. A fort with 2 caves here and Lydacon Lodge. Authority Mr. Patrick Kelly, Steward to Mr. O’Hara.
Situation:
In the South West of the parish of Ardrahan, Barony of Kiltartan and County Galway, North of a road passing by Raheen Demesne and West of the Mail Coach Road leading from Gort to Galway.
