Propprietor The Earl of Huntington, Clashmore, Youghal. Agent Dennis Healy, Esq., Grouse Hill, Loughrea. Let to 9 occupying tenants at will at 24s. per acre. County Cess 2/11½ per acre. Tithe withheld by the tenantry. Size of farms from 1 to 12 acres. Soil rocky and gravely. Usual crops wheat, oats and potatoes. Bog none. Prevailing names O’Shaughnessy and Callan. Ruins of Ballylin old castle in this townland. Authority Andrew Finnegan, townland Ballylin.

In the North West of the Parish of Killogilleen Barony of Dunkellin and County Galway, East of Monksfield River, and East and West of a Road.

Translation according to P. W. Joyce:
Ballylin in Donegal, King's Co., Limerick, and Galway, Ballyline in Clare, Kilkenny, and Kerry, and Ballyling in Carlow and Cork; Baile-Ui-Fhloinn [-lin], town of O'Flynn. Initial F dropped out (p. 2, IV) [reproduced below]. N.B. — Irish nn often gets the sound of English ng.
IV. F aspirated loses its sound altogether and drops out. Barranarran, in Mayo, represents the Irish Barr-an-fhearainn, the top or highest part (barr) of the fearann or land, where f vanishes.
