Description:
Proprietor James Val. Browne, Esq., Galway. This townland is held by 15 farmers. Rent 7s. per acre. Some have a lease of 21 years, others have none. Soil part arable and pasture and a part rocky and mountainous, producing wheat, barley, oats and potatoes. In this townland there is a neat two story high house with offices. Garden called Riverview. This residence of ? Browne, Esq. There is also a neat lodge of one story high with offices, garden and the property of the Rev. Peter Daly, R.C.P. called Abano Lodge. The tenantry of this townland are poor. Houses built of stone walls without mortar. Nothing remarkable on it. County Cess £10 yearly.
Situation:
N. of the parish. Bounded in the North by Brownvill and Killeen, on E. by Kentfield and Ballagh, on S. by Thoanabrucky and Ballagh, and on W. by Boolanasroohaun and Oranhill.

Gortatlea in Kerry, and Gortatleva in Galway; Gort-a'-tsleibhe, field of the slieve or mountain. This in both eclipsed. In the first, Gortatlea, the aspi-rated b (of sleibhe) drops out; in Gortatleva it keeps its aspirated sound (bh or v).
