Mac Conneely is now anglicised to Connolly. John Connolly the famous astronomer and Deist of Galway is Shane Mac Morogh Mc Connolly of Ballyconneely.
Description:
Proprietor Augustus John O’Neile, Esq., Bunnowen Castle. Agent Mr. John Mullen, Ballyconnneely, Ballindoon Parish. Agent John R. Berwick, Esq., Ballinahinch or Dublin. £400 per year as bulked rent. Size of farms from 3 to 20 acres. Co. Cess 20¼d. paid half yearly for each of 46 acres. Soil very rocky in parts in other parts moory having a great extent of bog attached thereto. The bog being Slieve Bourke. Village Names:- Emlugh, Lower Ballyconneely, Upper Ballyconneely, Daleyhill, Moorlugh, Church Yard, Crumpaun and Lettershask, Lough of Lettershask in the boundary near Foorgloss townland. Lough-an-assurd touches the following townlands Bunownbeg, Emloghuran, Trusky and Manning-more and Derrygimlagh. The sea is South of townland, 2 public schools, road to Bunown Bay is also to Clifden, old road to Trusky, old road to Roundstone. Rocks- Mullaun-an-on kerra, Corrig Yunnugha, Mullaune-na-lunga, Corrig Keel, Lacka-vinnaun, Corrigskeltheghbeg, Lough-na-mrak-keegh in Doohola mere Lough Kankogue in mere of Foorgloss and Dohola, Lough-na-gloughskelthigh N. of L. Kankogue. Islands- Strawbeach Island, Corrigkark Island. Rocks- ferroon, Coherroo-na-corrag, Corriglahan, Mullaun-a-vinnaun, Corrig a loughaan, Illaun Corrig, ½ Duck Island, ½ Doon-a-waul beg, ½ Doon-a-waul more, ½ Maul-gorruvmore, ½ Malgorrruv Island.
Situation:
A central townland bounded on the North by townlands Derrygimlagh and Shannanagower, West by Loughanassert townland, Bunnowenbeg South by the Atlantic Ocean, Foorgloss and Doohola: and on the East by Doohola and Boolagair. In the Barony of Ballinahinch and Co. of Galway.
