Monivea | parish | The Ph. contains in all about 21,930 acres. It is for the most part poor shallow soil thickly inhabited and badly cultivated. In the Western side of the Ph. there are three large tracts of bog, the remainder is a limestone district and from the numerous subterranean passages through which the water is carried off the inhabitants are subject to great inconvenience during seasons of drought. The small village of Monivea in which is situated the Ph. Church stands nearly central. The portion belonging to this Barony is the property of Mahon Esq. who has a neat and fashionable residence called Belville. The greatest part is pasture. |
Monivea | part of a townland | This part of the Ph. is for the most part a poor shallow soil with a large portion of bog and boggy pasture. It it is situated a gentleman’s seat called Graig Abbey. This part of the Ph. (Kilconnel Barony) contains about 4,130 acres. |
Monivea | village | The village of Monivea stands nearly central in the parish, and the parish forms part of the Baronies of Tiaquin, Clare and Kilconnel. There are a number of Gentlemen’s Seats, and a few well laid out farms in this parish. It contains in all about 21,930 acres, of which 16,150 belong to the Barony of Tiaquin. The site of the ancient house of Quin from which the barony derives its name is situated near the eastern extremity of the parish in the rear of a neat cottage, the residence of [unable to read] Burke, Esq. – the owner of a small estate in the parish. |
